This mathematic approach is useful if you want to calculate „luck” – actually the probability of the odds to be in your favor. I feel that this rigorous view over poker has been insufficient calculated, although there are millions of sites that offer tips about playing poker. I believe that in this game is also necessary to have control over the unpredictable.

These percentages are a tool for anybody who mentions “luck” too often and looks at this notion as if it was out of our reach.

Celebrity poker showdown

Well, well… Hercules hits hard! Not only the mythical character but also the actor who stared in the famous tv series “Hercules”. Kevin Sorbo has dropped his Greek outfit, abandoned Yolaus – his budy pall from the movie – and got into more casual clothes.

He played poker, among other celebrities, at a charity event produced by Picture This Television together with Bravo. The television holds original series called “Celebrity Poker Showdown”; it has reached enough seasons. The tournament includes games of Texas Hold 'Em. The price for which the celebrities have competed reached one million dollars.

The gains from the tournament were to be donated to the victims of Hurricane Katrina. I had the oportunity of watching poker played live by Holywood’s famous faces ... Nice! But i could not help myself from wondering ... how did they reached that poker playing level? Hmm ... i could just picture Kevin Sorbo before the competition practicing poker at online casinos.

Well, in the tournament where Sorbo participated, Jason Alexander won … Therefore, all the world is waiting for a reply … a rematch!

Blackjack basics

You know the game and you are already fond of it!
Blackjack, to be frank, is mostly a game of skill. That does not mean that it excludes totally the “luck” part, after all – once in a while you just don’t get good cards! But this master card game is mostly about knowing when to hit or stand. If you apply a proper strategy, you can turn the odds in your favor, but not by chance. What you actually do is that you create a positive mathematical expectation.

Let us take a brief look over the basic blackjack rule: the object of the game is to gather a hand that is higher than the dealer’s but not higher than 21!

Strategy consists in calculating the chances for getting the required cards. Don’t get intimidated! Learning a proper strategy does not resable the mastering of nuclear physics! Let me give you a simple lesson about card values: you have the Tens and Face Cards have the value of 10, Aces have the value of 1 or 11 and the rest have the same value as their face value. The next issue covers the play itself: the dealer is you opponent, not the other players. Each of them makes a bet. The dealer will deal two cards for each player and two for himself. His second card will be placed face up on the table.

If he has „Blackjack” he will win the bets automatocally, unless one of the players has also Blackjack. This is situation is called a tie. From the starting point – the player that sits on the dealer’s left – each player chooses to satnd or deal extra cards. All continues until une of them gets a card count that has a value of more than 21. The folowing moment is when all players decide and the dealer draws extra cards to obtain a total of 17 or higher, or to bust. If his hand does not bust, all the players with a higher card total win (and of course, those with a lower total value of the cards – loose).

World Poker Tour

Recently, I was again delighted by the television series of World Poker Tour (WPT). Besides my enormous admiration for my favorite host, Courtney Friel, I was astonished by the performance of the players. Some have not reached me the same way they used to do it in the past, yet, I could still find some amazing stiles. Tuan Le and Daniel Negreanu remained the leaders of the game.

Since 2004, when Tuan Le won his first WPT event and earned over $ 1,500,000, he has never stopped to surprise. He is continuously improving his poker game.

This very calm and cool character is astonishing through his showed politeness while showing an aggressive poker play. He is a man of contrasts. So cool, yet he is intimidating for his poker opponents by the manner of his fast given hands. You can’t tell if he is bluffing or if he really has a certain advantage. But you can know for sure one thing: the odds will turn for him every time!

As a simple watcher, you can only look at his presence with respect. At the Battle of Champions III, he proved that he is worthy to be called “King of Poker”.
